Infoproject Front-End Web Development: CSS / XHTML / Accessibility / Web Standards

What I Do...

Design Translation

My main expertise is translating web designs into CSS / XHTML. These designs can be provided in formats such as .psd, .jpg, .png and so on.

I've got a lot of real-world experience with accurately reproducing designs that are built on clean, semantic and flexible code. I very rarely make use of CSS hacks as I believe that they can cause problems in the future.

Accessibility

A well coded CSS / XHTML page is usually pretty accessible in itself, and I've got a good understanding of any extra coding needed to achieve the necessary level of accessibility. Much of my work has been for clients who specialise in this area.

There is a fair amount of disagreement about certain aspects of accessibility. The usage of liquid layouts, link title attributes and access keys are just a few aspects that are strongly debated. I aim to keep up with these arguments, but sometimes there is no right answer!

In terms of image replacement, I favour the "Phark" technique. I am aware some people believe there are better alternatives, but I'm not convinced.

Search Engine Optimisation

The first and most important requirement for a search engine friendly page is clean and semantic code. I do not claim to have a full knowledge of other SEO techniques, but I can advise on some very effective strategies nonetheless.

Design

I don't market myself as a designer, and am usually given designs by my clients. I have produced a few, though, including the site you are looking at now!
